It is with much regret that the Committee of the International Gundog League Retriever Society considers that it is unable to hold the IGL Retriever Championship in 2020.
Arrangements for the Championship are unlike those for any other Field Trial. The Committee has been monitoring the developing situation since the start of lockdown and has spent much time considering the steps that would be required to hold the Championship in these challenging times. The Committee has arrived at its decision following an extensive exercise.
The safety and wellbeing of all those who would attend the Championship has been one of the foremost considerations.
The Committee acknowledges this is a deeply disappointing decision, but considers it unavoidable in the present circumstances. This was not a conclusion reached lightly.
Looking ahead to the 2021 Championship, the Committee has decided that:
i. Any award gained before 3 December 2020 which would have carried a qualification for the 2020 Retriever Championship will not be carried forward to the 2021 Retriever Championship. This is with the exception of the current IGL Retriever Champion, who will be invited to defend the title in 2021.
ii. Any award gained from and including 3 December 2020 will qualify for the 2021 Championship in the usual way. The 2020 Irish Retriever Champion will be invited to run in the 2021 IGL Retriever Championship in the customary way.
A further statement will be available on this website in due course.
